The city

Vienna is the capital and largest city in Austria, as well as its economic, political and cultural centre. It has a privileged location, situated in the East of the country very close to its borders with Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Vienna is considered one of the oldest and most classical cities in Europe. For many years it was the residence of the Austrian royal family; the importance that the city had and still has can be seen in its magnificent buildings, among which there are 27 castles and more than 150 palaces, the most well-known being Schönbrunn Palace, where Empress Sissi lived.

Vienna’s cultural life is also very rich and varied, with the Vienna State Opera in the city centre, one of the most famous and beautiful operas in the world and close by in the Old Town is the museum district, a cultural area where visitors can find a variety of museums.

What is there to do in Vienna?

-One of the most impressive characteristics of the city is the large number of palaces and castles that it has. It is very interesting to visit the palaces of the Austrian royal family. They are not only extraordinarily beautiful, but visiting them is also a way to get to know the history of the city and the country, as well as that of Empress Sissi.

-If you want to have a good time, the best option is Prater amusement park. The park is both exciting and relaxing, as it not only has many attractions but also an area of extensive green parks and relaxing paths to walk down. The famous Ferris wheel, one of the symbols of the city, is found in the park.

-Vienna is known as the city of music. As well as being able to enjoy the Opera, you can also have the pleasure of listening to the young singers of Vienna, the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna Symphony. There is music all over the city.

– Something else that must not be missed is Vienna’s cuisine. The Austrian capital gives its name to a type of food, Viennese cooking. Among its most typical dishes are the Weiner Schnitzel and the delicious Sachertorte.
