Together with Drupal, Joompla! and WordPress, Typo3 is among the most popular content managers in the world. Its use is most widespread in Europe, especially in German-speaking countries. We at Mondo Agit use Typo3 on the Spanish, German and Italian versions of our website
Typo3 is considered highly flexible, as different extensions may be added to unlock new functions, without the need for writing additional code. This software is available in over 50 languages and comes equipped with an internalisation and localisation system, which enables the user to publish content in several languages.
Typo3 is used to create and manage websites of different types and sizes: from small websites for the general public or NGOs to multilingual business solutions for large corporations.
Despite the fact it is equipped with a basic array of functions and modules, the functional spectrum of Typo3 is implemented by extensions. More than 5000 extensions exist for Typo3, and they can be downloaded free of charge under the GNU General Public License.
Typo3’s main functions include the possibility of controlling user privileges and roles, content programming from the moment of publication (show/hide content), search function for static or dynamic content, URLs adapted for search engines, automatic site map creation and multilingual content.
The extensions allow the modular integration of diverse functions. These are some of the most important functions that can be added:
- News publication system
- Alternative text editors
- Data about countries, languages and different currencies
- Online shopping systems
- User register
- Image gallery
- Expanded and personalised forms for data entry
- Website visitor analysis
- Search function
